For the past two years Carve Surfaceworks has been involved with a project
special to North Carolina and to us. |
|
I would like to thank Chip Hemingway and David Michaels for thinking outside the often bland concrete box.
Also I would like to thank JR, the Project Manger of Clancy + Theys, and Gordan of S+W Concrete.
These men allowed Carve to take part in an unbelievably historical project.
Every time we stepped foot on the project, we felt like history was being made.
Jennette's Pier is a LEED's Gold project.
This project was built to withstand and harvest the powers of nature.
Carve was able to contribute to LEED's points by using a concrete terrazzo finish. |
|
The project consisted of 5,000 lbs of post-consumed recycled glass,
size range from 1/4" to 3" diameter.
"That's some big ass glass" said some job site spectators.
The day we cast the glass we had a North East wind at 10 to 20 knots and a air temperature of 43 degrees.
With our bare hands (we forgot gloves), we cast all the glass during the pour. |
|
The following year Team Carve did some designer saw kerfs.
We cut nine 12'x12' squares.
We then exposed all the interiors of the squares.
The perimeter we did a quick polish.
We sealed with a satin exterior base sealer. |
|
Color: "Make it look like the OCEAN"...so we did.
Two thumbs up to the owners and crew @ the double M's.
They let us have artisan liberty with color, texture, and application. |
